“Scoliosis and the Stations of the Cross” is a poetic short story OlaRose Ndubuisi wrote at age 15 in 2022, in which she imagines herself walking alongside Jesus from His passion in Gethsemane to His death on the cross at Calvary. He carries His T-shaped cross and OlaRose carries her S-shaped cross representing her scoliosis. Writing her reflections during Lent on Jesus’ passion and sacrifice made her feel less alone in her pain, and helped her to develop a more positive outlook on how her medical condition is shaping her into a more resilient, compassionate, patient, and prayerful person. OlaRose is working on publishing her poetic short story as a book with illustrations soon. Proceeds from her published book will go to support the efforts of the Finding Scoliosis Kindly (FiSK) Project to teach kids to use creative outlets for positive self-expression.
You can read “Scoliosis and the Stations of the Cross” here, which includes two paintings OlaRose made. The published book will have paintings accompanying each station.
